Online Flute, Piano & Violin Coaching for Adults
Please note that I no longer teach children in the UK . However I occasionally accept students over the age of 12 in Asian countries
I specialise in music education packages for international professionals and their families. With today’s technology, online lessons are as effective and furthermore more convenient than face‑to‑face tuition and of course the teaching quality is the same. My focus is on grade preparation courses from beginner up to post-grade 8 and diploma levels. Digital performance examinations are preferred by most students so online tuition fits this accelerated model of learning better than in person old school tuition. My teaching packages are individually tailored and built around each student’s strengths, goals and learning style. I use a range of techniques and adapt the method to the student rather than forcing a single system on everyone.
To maintain your momentum and guarantee steady progress, my packages include interactive support between your regular scheduled sessions. Students can send me video or audio clips of their independent practice on weekdays for direct feedback, guidance, and adjustments before their next lesson. I also limit the number of students per year so I can provide close mentorship, detailed feedback and consistent progress monitoring. My students consistently achieve excellent results: I have a 100% pass rate and the majority gain distinctions or merits in their examinations. I can teach all genres but usually classical is preferred by international students especially those based in Asia.
Having achieved the academic graduate basis for registration and graduate membership of the British Psychological Society in 1996 I combine musical pedagogy with foundational scientific insights to help my students overcome performance anxiety, manage stage nerves and find technical balance. As a member of the Society for Education, Music and Psychology Research (SEMPRE) I bring modern evidence based strategies straight to your online music lessons
Enrolment and next steps

After two years of piano lessons with Ruth I would hesitate to call myself advanced but at 70 years old and with the memory bank nearly full what else can I expect! Thankfully I found a teacher who continues to demonstrate endless patience and gives tremendous support. Ruth spends a great deal of time outside the lessons devising various innovative teaching techniques to fit my needs. As a result l am slowly progressing and beginning to enjoy and understand both the theory and practical side of playing. I am pleased to have been asked to write this testimony as it goes some to expressing my appreciation for the continuing kindness, reassurance and support given over the past two years. Lynne

Ruth is a very knowledgeable and motivational teacher and has helped me reach Grade 8 with distinction. I recommend her to anyone wanting to pursue music!!

Ruth is an excellent teacher, she is very encouraging and I always feel like practicing more after every lesson. Ruth has taught me for nearly two years and I am now learning grade 6 pieces after passing grades 3,4 & 5 with distinction

Ruth is an excellent teacher and creates rapport very quickly with students of all ages. She instinctively knows how to draw out their musical talents, using her varied and creative methods and an holistic approach to build confidence and skills. Her lessons are enjoyable, good humoured and concentrate on the positives whilst always remaining challenging. In 2.5 years of instruction, as an adult student, I have achieved 4 distinctions in theory and practical exams - something I could never have previously dreamed I would be capable of. Ruth has truly opened up the world of music to me and I know it will be a life long passion - I only wish I'd started years ago! I have every confidence she can do the same for you. Kate Smith Wilson
