Inside the Piano Studio

Tailored online piano tuition for all levels

Elizabeth preparing a performance for her first wedding booking in Piano Class

For many beginner and intermediate level pianists, getting the left and right hand to play different rhythms or dynamic levels simultaneously feels like a huge challenge.

It is common for the hands to mimic each other rather than act independently or for the accompaniment to overpower the melody because you cannot isolate the volume of each hand effectively.

Here is a short video with an explanation followed by a full demo with some tips on how to correct this annoying technical conundrum. (NB This is for beginners and intermediates not advanced as there are additional strategies to follow when there is more than one melody line to shape)

Can't commit to a fixed live schedule?

If you are an ambitious teenager, a busy professional, a self taught adult or preparing for a specific examination or audition, submit a video recording of your playing (up to 15 mins) in your own time.

I can give you a personalised expert audio or video diagnostic critique with advice on the technical and interpretative adjustments you need to make.

Asynchronous Video Consultation: £60 per session.  Contact to Book
